Roof Replacement Process

Mastering the Peak: A Homeowner’s Guide to Professional Roof Replacement

Understanding the CertainTeed Integrity Roof System

A roof is more than just shingles; it is a complex system designed to protect your most valuable investment. At Peak Construction Group LLC, we specialize in installing the CertainTeed Integrity Roof System. This approach ensures that every component—from the underlayment to the ridge vents—works together to provide maximum durability and weather protection.

Replacing a roof is a significant project. Understanding the process helps you prepare for the installation and ensures you know what a high-quality job looks like.

Phase I: Preparation and Safety Protocols

Before the first shingle is removed, we focus on protecting your property and ensuring the safety of our crew.

  • Property Protection: We ask homeowners to move personal items at least 10 feet away from the home. Our crews use tarps and protective sheeting to cover shrubs and landscaping.

  • Site Readiness: We utilize specialized equipment, such as the Equipter Roofer Buggy, to manage debris efficiently while minimizing impact on your driveway and lawn.

  • Safety Checks: Ropes and walking planks are set up as needed for safety.

  • Animals and infants: The process is noisy; we recommend moving pets and small children for the day to minimize their stress.

  • Vehicles: We recommend moving vehicles out of the garage so you are not blocked by equipment.

  • Dumpster: Usually we schedule the dumpster to be dropped off the day before installation.

Phase II: The Tear-Off and Decking Inspection

A quality roof replacement must start with a clean slate. We systematically remove all old roofing material down to the roof decking.

  1. Removal: Shingles and old felt paper are removed starting from the ridge and working down to the eaves.

  2. Decking Inspection: We visually inspect the plywood or OSB decking for rot, soft spots, or water staining.

  3. Repairs: Any damaged decking is replaced to ensure a stable base. For example, plank boards with excessive gapping may require an overlay of new plywood.

Phase III: Installing the CertainTeed Waterproofing Layers

Following materials are critical for warranty compliance. We install a multi-layered barrier to prevent leaks.

Ice & Water Shield : CertainTeed WinterGuard is the primary leak barrier in eaves and valleys.

Drip Edge : Aluminum drip edge directs water into gutters and off the fascia.

Synthetic Underlayment: CertainTeed DiamondDeck is a secondary water barrier for the entire deck.

Starter Shingles: CertainTeed SwiftStart shingles ensure a sealed edge and proper alignment of the shingles.

Phase IV: Shingle Installation and Ventilation

The "Integrity Roof System" relies on the precise installation of high-quality shingles, such as CertainTeed Landmark or Landmark Pro Shingles.

  • Fastening: Shingles are fastened with five to six nails per shingle, according to manufacturer specifications. We often use Ring Shank Nails for superior wind protection in our premium packages.

  • Staggering: Courses are staggered to prevent vertical seams from aligning, which is vital for water resistance.

  • Ridge Ventilation: We install ridge vents and matching ridge cap shingles (such as Shadow Ridge or Cedar Crest) to ensure proper attic ventilation. This regulates temperature and moisture, extending the life of your roof.

Phase V: Final Cleanup and Inspection

We don't consider the job done until your property is spotless.

  • Magnet Sweep: We perform a final pass with a magnetic roller to find and remove any stray nails from your driveway and lawn.

  • Gutter Cleaning: Every roof replacement includes a free gutter cleaning to ensure your new system drains perfectly.

  • Final Walkthrough: The homeowner and contractor review the work to confirm it meets all local building codes and quality standards.
